Selena Gomez and Justin Bieber

Selena Gomez might be young, but that doesn’t mean she doesn’t know what it’s like to be in love, to be heartbroken and to feel as if she’s trapped in an endless cycle of romance with someone who she probably knows isn’t good for her, yet she can’t seem to get away from the relationship no matter how hard she tries. After all, the heart wants what it wants. And that’s the name of the new song she performed at last night’s American Music Awards, which is sure to bring tears to your eyes.

The song, while not specifically mentioning Justin Bieber by name, is certainly about the troubled pop star and his relationship with the singer. The visual effects going on behind Gomez as she sang the troubled song were very mature and much more grown-up than anything else Gomez has ever performed, leaving her fans to wonder if she’s taking a different direction with her music.

Either way, you don’t have to be privy to the personal life of the singer to know that the song is absolutely about Bieber and their on-again, off-again, on-again, off-again relationship, but that doesn’t make it any less emotional to hear when the words are coming from Gomez. It’s almost as if she’s opening up to the world about what’s really in her heart, and she knows that the world is rooting against their relationship, but she can’t help but want to make it work. The Heart Wants What is Wants; and she’s not afraid to take to the stage at one of music’s biggest nights and open up her inner-most feelings for the world to see. She sings about how much people wish they didn’t want people in their lives anymore, yet they can’t stop wanting those people in their lives anymore. It’s just the vicious cycle of life for some.
