It’s no news that Federer is one of the highest-paid athletes in the world. In fact, he’s ranked 7th on the Forbes 2022 list. He has been one of the top earners in sports but is he a billionaire by net worth?

Roger Federer has a net worth of $550 million. He has, however, reached $1 billion in career earnings from on-court winnings and endorsement deals. Among his numerous endorsement deals, the one that stands out the most is the 10-year Uniqlo deal which amounts to $300 million.

The Philanthropist

The Swiss champion has certainly put his money to good use. He established the Roger Federer Foundation in 2003 to support educational projects in South Africa and Switzerland. The foundation is currently active in 7 countries.

They have helped improve the quality of more than 9,000 educational institutions and have positively impacted close to 2 million children.

Based on the foundation’s 2021 Annual Report, they spent 68 million Swiss Francs or around $70.3 million on their projects.

Roger and his wife, Mirka, donated $1.02 million to give relief to families in Switzerland affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. His foundation also donated $1 million to give families in Africa meals while schools are closed because of the pandemic.

He has also put up his talents for good causes by organizing and participating in exhibition matches to raise funds to help those affected by calamities like the Haiti earthquake and Queensland floods.

Assets

The 20-time grand slam winner has a few toys in his garage, but one that catches the eye is the Mercedes AMG GT S. This beast of a car has a starting price of around $160,000.

The said garage resides in his lakeside Zurich mansion, which he acquired in 2014 and is priced at $8.1 million.

It is a three-story house with floor-to-ceiling windows to take in the view of Lake Zurich in Wollerau, Switzerland. It sits on 1.5 acres of land.

It houses a couple of apartments for him, his wife Mirka, and their children: Myla, Charlene, Lenny, and Leo. He also moved in his parents, Robert and Lynette, to the other apartment.

Off-Court Earnings

The 2016 World’s Most Marketable Sports Person has endorsement deals with the world’s biggest brands – for which he earned $90 million in 2022.

Apart from Uniqlo, he also partners with Mercedes-Benz, National Suisse, Rolex, Credit Suisse, On, Jura Elektroapparate, Lindt, and many more.

The Man

Federer is a well-decorated tennis veteran with unbelievable records that could stand the test of time. But, not only is he one of the best to ever play – he is also one of the sport’s greatest ambassadors for showing great character and sportsmanship.

He has won the Stefan Edberg Sportsmanship Award 13 times. The award, voted on by players as well, is given to the player who has shown the highest level of professionalism and integrity throughout the year.

Roger is also a two-time recipient of the Arthur Ashe Humanitarian of the Year Award. The award is given to athletes who are able to reflect the spirit of Arthur Ashe, ‘possessing strength in the face of adversity, courage in the face of peril and the willingness to stand up for their beliefs no matter what the cost.’

Although rivals Nadal and Djokovic have overtaken Federer in the rankings, fans still show great love for the Swiss by choosing him as ATP Fans’ Favourite for 19 consecutive years from 2003 to 2021.

Arguably the greatest ever

Because of his accolades and humble personality, many regard Roger as the greatest to ever play. In 2018, Tennis.com named him top 1 of the 50 best players of the Open Era.

His game was described as, ‘fuse the stylish with the substantive, the artistic with the effectual, the elegant with the dominant.’

Serena Williams, considered as the best women’s tennis player ever, calls Roger a “genius” and the best ever over Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic.

She is a self-described superfan of Federer and goes on further to say, “You can’t not like the guy, that’s how I feel. His game is so fantastic. If I could only play like him.”

The argument for the best male tennis player ever is currently between the world number 1, Novak Djokovic (with 20 grand slam wins), Rafael Nadal (with 21 grand slam wins), and Roger Federer with 20 grand slam wins.
