OLYMPIC golden girl Cathy Freeman has introduced her beautiful new baby Ruby to the world.
Freeman shunned a six-figure magazine deal to post the first pictures of her and husband James Murch with their daughter Ruby Anne Susie Murch on her personal website.
Freeman gave birth in Sydney on Friday then enjoyed a private weekend with her first child before posting the stunning photos late on Monday evening.
She later took to Twitter to share her joy with fans and friends. "Thank you to everyone for the congratulations and kind wishes. Recovering well and loving being a new mum," she wrote.
Freeman described motherhood as her greatest victory.
The 2000 Sydney Olympics poster girl did her best to keep active during her pregnancy, and was often photographed going to the gym.
Freeman vowed to stay healthy after developing gestational diabetes during the pregnancy.
She had to inject herself with insulin up to four times a day.
The former Queenslander turned Melbourne local married Murch in a beachside ceremony on the Bellarine Peninsula in 2009.
Since retiring from the track in 2003, Freeman has worked as an ambassador for children's fitness and Aboriginal health and education causes.
